Temporary Leave Replacement – Secondary Social Studies Teacher

 

Reports to: Principal                                                              Location: Centralia Middle School

Bargaining Unit: Centralia Education Association               FLSA Status: Exempt

Classification: Certificated Teacher

Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to teach virtual secondary social studies classes which may include; world history, human geography, United State history, civics and others. This position will teach students in grades 7-8.

Required Qualifications:

●        Possession of a Valid Washington State Teaching Certification

●        Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, possess awareness (for self and others), listen actively, be patient, incorporate humor/lightheartedness into work, be empathic, and be customer-service oriented

●        Ability to be self-directed while working with a high degree of collaboration

●        Successful experience creating organizational systems able to flexibly respond to changing student needs 

●        Proven ability to function in a calm, efficient, courteous manner under stress and to exercise careful judgment, confidentiality, and tact in the performance of duties

●        Successful experience establishing and maintaining professional relationships with students, co-workers, and administration including serving as an integral member of a highly collaborative PLC team.

●        Ability to act in an ethical and confidential manner in all aspects of employment

●        Ability to support the District’s Vision, Mission, and Goals including the belief that all students can succeed

●        Skills and ability to manage the day-to-day activities of Paraeducators

●        Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations

Preferred Qualifications:

●        Master’s Degree in the field of education, history or another pertinent field

●        Ability to speak Spanish

Essential Functions for this Position:  Secondary Social Studies

●        Helps students and staff prepare developmentally appropriate tasks and assignments for social studies content in grades 9-12 including preparation of lessons aligned to standards

●        Facilitates students assessing their personal skills, abilities, aptitudes, personal strengths, and weaknesses as they relate to social studies content development

●        Creates self-discovery experiences helping students identify their individual strengths and align them with post-secondary opportunities

●        Ensures content taught in specific social studies courses aligns with the outlined Washington state standards

●        Integrates leadership skills and content into lessons to help facilitate positive citizenship.

Essential Functions of All Teachers:

●        Creates a safe physical and emotional space for students to engage in rigorous academic learning

●        Actively supports and reinforces school/district policies and procedures

●        Creates a classroom management system aligned to schoolwide approach: 1) Clearly define behavior expectations 2) Consistently communicate and enforce behavior expectations 3) Address breakdowns of expectations privately with students 4) Approach discipline as an opportunity to teach/reinforce expectations with the goal of changing behavior

●        Collaborates in Professional Learning Communities with colleagues to work on the four questions: 1) What do we want students to learn?  2) How do we know they have learned? 3) How will we respond when they have learned? 4) How will we respond when they don’t learn?

●        Records accurate and timely attendance aligned with school/district policies and procedures

●        Maintains accurate and timely grades with the primary purpose to communicate students’ progress towards understanding learning targets

●        Maintains timely and professional lines of communication with students, families, staff, and building administration;

●        Ensures classroom practices align with students’ individual IEPs, 504s, EL Plans, or other specialized plans as appropriate

●        Utilizes the technology in the classroom to enhance instruction and engage students

●        Actively support all aspects of the School Improvement Plan

●        Actively support the District’s mission, vision, and goals

●        Attends trainings and meetings as directed or appropriate

●        Other duties as assigned

Benefits: Leave and other fringe benefits as allowed under the Centralia Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Work schedule: 7.5 hours per day - Temporary – Leave Replacement through January 13, 2025 or longer if necessary

Salary:  $60,724 - $120,323 annually, DOE – Final salary will depend on the length of employment
