Summary:

The Eatonville Middle School Assistant Principal/Athletic Director assists the school Principal in the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of a comprehensive program of educational and student services. The Assistant Principal/Athletic Director is responsible for administering programs in accordance with board policies, statutory requirements, administrative rules and regulations, WIAA, athletic league requirements, and consistent with collective bargaining agreements. The Assistant Principal/Athletic Director will serve as an advocate in the school for the staff, school, and school community as appropriate.

Responsibilities:

1. Assists in supervising, evaluating, and facilitating the improvement of the instructional and guidance programs of the building.

2. Promotes the school and district with sta , students, families and the community; responsible for student welfare and strong student, family and community relationships.

3. Supervises the Student Management Program and administers discipline to students; supervises students in lunchroom, hallways, on school grounds, and during any program held at the school under school district auspices.

4. Supervises school safety program; coordinates drills for re, lahar and earthquake to ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.

5. Leads district truancy board; works with students and families to facilitate reengagements; prepares reports and represents the district at truancy hearings.

6. Act as building athletic director; participate in league meetings; stay up-to-date on league and WIAA regulations; responsible for the hiring and evaluation of building coaches.

7. Act as principal of record for District ALE programs; responsible for ensuring compliance with State and OSPI regulations.

8. Participates in sta meetings and in-service training programs sponsored by the principal and/or district; maintains and updates knowledge and skill through professional development as needed or as assigned.

9. Provides ongoing professional development for sta and demonstrates a commitment to sound research-based instructional practices, project based learning and integrated technology. Prepares reports and maintains current records as required, analyzing and utilizing the data to lead program improvement within the building.

10. Ensure district procedures, collective bargaining agreements, student expectations, WACs and RCWs are followed.

11. Assist in recruiting and retaining highly qualified staff members in order to provide and outstanding educational experience for students and staff .

12. Serve as an active member of the District Administrative Team.

13. Understand the value and importance of the school as the heart of a small, rural community and is visibly involved.

14. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, reaching, carrying, pushing or pulling; some walking, frequent bending and keyboarding. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking and 30% standing. The job is performed with the majority of time spent indoors and under minimal temperature variations; a portion of the day will be spent outdoors and is subject to a variety of changing weather conditions and potentially uneven/slippery surfaces. The job also requires the ability to commute between school buildings.

Desired Qaulifications:

Experience with increasing levels of responsibility including experience leading teacher teams with professional learning communities, professional development, instructional leadership, or program management Experience working collaboratively with staff, students and families to develop a positive learning environment. Experience and knowledge of sound discipline practices that incorporate PBIS, MTSS, and inclusive and equitable behavior management Experience with multi-tiered systems of support and use of best practices for behavioral and academic interventions Managerial skill in planning, organizing, and listening. Demonstrative skills in the use of technology for teaching and learning. Athletic coaching experience.

Required Qualifications:

Washington State Administrator Certi cate with K-12 Principal endorsement.

Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate

Minimum five (5) successful years teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level

Ability to react in emergency situations to include intervening and, as necessary consistent with District policy, restraining students
