JOB EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated.
Develop lesson plans and instructional material to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
Instructs students for the purpose of improving their music appreciation and musical skills (e.g. voice and instrumentation).
Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments and/or skills for the purpose of modeling the skills necessary to perform the tasks safely and/or accurately.
Assesses student's musical skills for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students' progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons using district-approved curriculum.
Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, provide progress and feedback to students/ parents, and prepare report cards.
Use engaging classroom instructional methods and materials consistent with the District's professional development offerings.
Create and maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for individual interests and learning styles of students.
Maintain and report regular attendance daily and enter grades into the designated system as per district policy.
Use effective classroom management techniques by establishing, sharing, and maintaining standards of pupil behavior, consistent with building and district policy.
Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and an optimal learning environment.
Reports incidents for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to district and/or school policies.
Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
Plans concerts and recitals for the purpose of displaying student performances, including evening performances, school concerts, field trips.
Coordinates and runs band fundraisers.
Supports other musical programs such as choir and collaborates with elective other musical programs and other classes for school and evening events.
Maintain extensive music, equipment and uniform inventories.
Maintains musical instruments, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of required materials.
Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
Teachers will communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community through effective and ongoing communication.
Effective utilize district technology appropriate to the position and assume responsibility for attending district training needed to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by a supervisor.
Direct the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel.
Collaborates with the school and/or district to plan all concerts and events.
Attend or participate in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District and/or building principal, in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional development.
Attend staff and grade level department meetings.
Comply with district policies, rules and regulations.
Participate in school-wide activities including advisory.
Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):

Knowledge and skills in music score interpretation, conducting and rehearsal techniques.
Knowledge of instrumental literature, music skills and concepts for high school level ensembles.
Knowledge in teaching students arranging or composing with music software
Knowledge of and/or experience with instruction using sound research-based instruction, best practices and pedagogy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. This position may be exposed to prolonged exposure to visual display terminals as required.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid WA State teacher certificate with subject appropriate endorsement.
Washington State Teacher Certification with appropriate endorsement.
Collaborative attitude with a desire to learn.

Calendar: 180 school days + 4 PLE days, 7.5 hours per day (184 workdays )
