Summary of Duties

DeWitt Public Schools is looking for a dynamic and experienced Communications Coordinator to lead district efforts in information management, marketing, branding, and community engagement. This role involves working closely with internal and external stakeholders, media partners, and the broader community to enhance communication strategies. The Communications Coordinator will develop and implement initiatives that effectively share information, strengthen the district’s public image, and foster strong connections among all stakeholders. This position requires a strategic, hands-on approach to ensure clear, consistent, and impactful messaging across all platforms.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field
2 plus years of experience in communications, social media management, marketing, or a related field
Strong storytelling ability to identify and publicize meaningful stories in a variety of platforms
Experience managing content across multiple sites and platforms
Proficiency in digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and content management systems
Knowledge of web management, publishing, and digital media (social media, podcasts, streaming video)
Excellent oral and written communication skills with a service-oriented focus
Ability to monitor media coverage, engage with local press, and pitch stories
Work with district leaders to ensure district communication adheres to security and student privacy policies
Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Key Responsibilities

Digital Communications (website, social media)

Maintain and manage the district website, ensuring effective content management, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and strategic revisions
Partner with the District social media team to expand the district's presence on Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms, ensuring community engagement
Monitor and manage the district's online reputation, updating content on external directories and review platforms
Maintain a photo and video archive of district events
Partner with the Community Education Director to ensure district marque communication aligns with district communication plan

Media Relations

Cultivate relationships with the media, coordinate press releases, and maintain media lists
Identify public relations opportunities to promote the district's achievements in local and national media
Attend and participate in Superintendent Cabinet and Board of Education meetings, assist with media relations

Crisis Communications

Manage the distribution of emergency alerts (e.g., snow days, lockdowns, urgent updates)
Assist in crisis communication efforts, working with the administration and cabinet team to ensure timely and appropriate messaging
Process responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request

Internal/External Communications

Develop and execute a comprehensive communication plan for both internal and external stakeholders
Draft, edit, and review written communications from the Superintendent's office
Advise the Superintendent and Board of Education on communication and community relations
Partner with departments to align messaging and ensure consistent communication across all channels
Assist superintendent in developing and implementing a communication strategy designed to further district goals
Coordinate and manage communications to support district initiatives, with occasional evening or weekend hours as circumstances require

Branding & Marketing

Develop and implement district-wide branding guidelines in collaboration with the administration and community
Promote and monitor adherence to district branding guidelines across all communication channels
Shape messaging for key initiatives, events, and announcements, including school bond projects, bond and other millage elections, district events, and innovative campaigns
Collaborate with school leadership to craft communications for district initiatives and program highlights
Design layouts for publications and other printed/electronic materials
Assist with marketing efforts for district programs (e.g., Schools of Choice, facilities)
Serve as a visible representative of DeWitt Public Schools at community events, supporting content creation and district outreach efforts
Coordinate and support district special events and projects as needed

Reporting

Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the success and failures of communications campaigns and strategies
Stay current on industry trends to make recommendations for adjustments to communication strategies and practices for the district
Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent

Compensation

$55,000-$65,000 + benefits

Work Schedule

Full-time, year-round (52 weeks/year)
