Job Summary:

The Educational Diagnostician is responsible for assessing and diagnosing students with learning disabilities or other educational needs. The diagnostician collaborates with educators, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that support students' academic and social-emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assessment & Evaluation:

o Conduct comprehensive psycho-educational assessments to identify students' learning strengths and weaknesses.

o Utilize a variety of formal and informal diagnostic tools to assess cognitive, academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development.

o Interpret assessment data to determine eligibility for special education services and develop appropriate interventions.

• IEP Development & Implementation:

o Collaborate with educators, parents, and other stakeholders to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) that address students' unique needs.

o Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and make adjustments as necessary to ensure student progress.

o Participate in IEP meetings, providing expert guidance on assessment results, instructional strategies, and accommodations.

• Collaboration & Consultation:

o Work closely with teachers, school psychologists, speech therapists, and other professionals to support student learning.

o Provide training and support to teachers and staff on effective instructional strategies and interventions for students with diverse learning needs.

o Serve as a resource for parents, offering guidance and support regarding their child's educational needs and available services.

• Documentation & Compliance:

o Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of assessments, evaluations, and student progress.

o Ensure all evaluations and interventions comply with state and federal regulations, including IDEA.

o Stay informed about current best practices, legal requirements, and emerging trends in educational diagnostics and special education.

• Professional Development:

o Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance diagnostic skills and stay current with new assessment tools and techniques.

o Contribute to the professional growth of colleagues through mentorship, workshops, and collaborative problem-solving.

Qualifications:

• Education:

o Master's degree in Educational Diagnostician, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field.

o Valid state certification or licensure as an Educational Diagnostician.

• Experience:

o Minimum of three years of teaching experience.

• Skills & Abilities:

o Strong understanding of learning disabilities, cognitive development, and special education laws.

o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

o Proficiency in the use of diagnostic tools and technology for assessments and documentation.

o Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.

Working Conditions:

• School-based environment with travel to various school sites as needed.

• Must be able to work with students of varying ages, abilities, and need.

• Maintain accurate records of the provision of services and parent contacts.

• Monitor and maintain accurate records of student progress and report progress to parents/guardians as noted in the IEP.

• Assist special education teachers and paraprofessionals to help ensure effective in-class follow-through.

• Stay informed of current research on adaptive physical education and related fields.

• Keep equipment in good condition to ensure it is safe and used properly.

• Comply with federal and state laws, as well as local policies and procedures.

• Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Monitor, review, and evaluate the department's adaptive physical education programs.

Working Conditions:

• Full-time position, typically during regular school hours.

• May involve occasional after-school or weekend events related to student activities.

• Mental demands include the ability to communicate, instruct, maintain emotional control under stress, motivate students, and create a positive and engaging learning environment.

• Physical demands include lifting equipment and supporting students during physical activities.

• Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting.
