This posting is for a Temporary Communications Assistant with the Cornerstone Program. The position is Classified, Hourly, Non-Represented. It is a flexible schedule up to 20 hours per week and may require occasional evening or weekend work based on district events. This position is grant funded and ends June 30, 2025. Position Summary:
The Communications Assistant supports the school district’s communications efforts by creating, managing, and distributing internal and external communications. This is a part-time, temporary position funded through a specific grant, and the assistant will work closely with the Public Information Officer and our Cornerstone Program staff to ensure timely and effective communication across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is highly organized, skilled in digital communication, and has a passion for education and community engagement.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Essential Job Functions:
- Content Creation: Assist in writing, editing, and publishing content for newsletters, press releases, website updates, and social media platforms.
- Social Media Management: Monitor and update social media accounts, ensuring regular posting and engagement with stakeholders.
- Graphic Design Support: Create basic graphic materials for announcements, events, and initiatives, maintaining brand consistency.
- Event Promotion: Support the promotion of Cornerstone events and initiatives, including creating flyers, digital content, and announcements.
- Community Engagement: Assist in maintaining communication with parents, students, staff, and community members via email, social media, and other channels.
- Photography & Video: Capture and edit photos and videos from events to use in promotional materials.
- Website Updates: Collaborate with the district’s PIO to ensure the website is current and user-friendly.
- Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support, including organizing communications data, reports, and materials.
Other Job Functions:

Job Requirements/Qualifications:
Experience: Prior experience in communications, social media management, or related fields preferred. Experience working in educational setting is desirable.
Minimum Employment Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. In addition, post-secondary coursework in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field preferred. A copy of your high school diploma and official college transcript (if applicable) must be provided upon hire.
Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
- Basic graphic design skills (experience with Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar software).
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
- Familiarity with web content management systems.
- Photography and basic video editing skills are desirable.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to operate standard office equipment, including the use of basic computer applications, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Abilities to sit/stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality, fulfill schedules and meet deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity and may include lifting/carrying 25 lbs.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (cost paid by applicant) and Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form required; First Aid/CPR Certification and Hepatitis B Vaccine Series may be required.

Compensation and Benefits:
Employee Compensation and Benefits are outlined in the Unrepresented Employees Group Agreement. The hourly rate for this position is $21.54. This position is grant funded and ends June 30, 2025. Continuation of this position will be dependent upon further grant funding.
The District complies with State Law regarding SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) and DRS (Washington State Department of Retirement Systems) eligibility and benefits. Employees must work 630 hours in a school year to be eligible. If eligible, SEBB benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, AD&D Insurance, Flexible Spending Arrangements (FSA), and Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP). Retirement benefits, if eligible, may include membership in SERS retirement plans in addition to voluntary Deferred Compensation Program and 403(b) Annuity enrollments. Paid time off and VEBA are also benefits outlined in the Unrepresented Employees Group Agreement.
