Job Title: Coordinator of Columbus Crossing High School/DAEP

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent
Pay Grade: Teacher PayScale and $10,000 Stipend

Primary Purpose:

Direct and manage the district’s Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) and credit recovery campus. Ensure compliance with Texas Education Code, board policy, and district procedures regarding disciplinary placements. Provide leadership for structured behavioral systems, academic remediation, and credit recovery to promote student accountability, academic progress, and successful transition to home campuses or graduation pathways.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master’s degree from an accredited university
Texas principal certificate or other appropriate Texas administrator certification
Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser (or eligible)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of Texas Education Code Chapter 37 and DAEP requirements
Knowledge of graduation requirements, credit recovery systems, and alternative instructional delivery models
Knowledge of student discipline law, manifestation determination procedures, and special program compliance
Ability to implement structured behavior management systems (e.g., PBIS, MTSS, restorative practices)
Ability to analyze and interpret student academic, attendance, and discipline data
Strong crisis management and de-escalation skills
Ability to manage campus operations, budget, and personnel
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Three years of successful classroom teaching experience
Campus leadership or student discipline experience preferred
Experience working with at-risk students preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Leadership and Credit Recovery

Oversee implementation of district curriculum within the DAEP setting.
Ensure students are appropriately scheduled in credit recovery and aligned with individual graduation plans.
Monitor student academic progress, credit accrual, and intervention effectiveness.
Support staff in delivering structured, differentiated instruction.
Coordinate transition planning to ensure continuity of instruction upon return to home campus.

Program Administration and Compliance

Administer the DAEP in compliance with Texas Education Code, board policy, and district procedures.
Ensure proper documentation and timelines for disciplinary placements, hearings, and notifications.
Maintain accurate records for discipline, attendance, academic progress, and required state reporting.
Monitor program effectiveness, including recidivism rates, attendance, and credit completion outcomes.
Communicate regularly with the Assistant Superintendent regarding program operations and compliance.

Student Management

Serve as campus behavioral coordinator as defined by law.
Implement and monitor a structured discipline management system.
Conduct intake, parent conferences, and re-entry meetings.
Ensure appropriate supervision of students at all times.
Coordinate required services for students receiving special education, Section 504, or other program supports.

Campus Operations

Oversee daily campus operations.
Develop schedules, staff assignments, and supervision plans.
Monitor student attendance and implement truancy prevention strategies.
Assist in development and monitoring of campus budget.
Coordinate transportation, food service, and other operational services.
Ensure compliance with district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Personnel Management

Supervise and evaluate assigned staff in accordance with district appraisal systems.
Provide coaching and professional development related to alternative education and behavior management.
Assist in recruiting, selecting, and onboarding campus personnel.

School/Community Relations

Maintain communication with parents, home campuses, and community agencies.
Promote a positive campus culture focused on accountability, restoration, and academic growth.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise and evaluate assigned professional and paraprofessional staff. Direct the work of teachers, instructional aides, and campus support staff.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.

Posture: Frequent standing, walking, sitting; occasional bending/stooping.

Motion: Frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.

Lifting: Occasional light lifting (less than 15 pounds); may include physical restraint of students in accordance with district training and policy.

Environment: Work in an alternative education setting that may involve exposure to challenging student behaviors; possible prolonged or irregular hours.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent interruptions; ability to manage crisis situations.
