Overview

The Director of Communications and Marketing at the Kane County Regional Office of Education (ROE) provides strategic leadership for all internal and external communications, branding, and public relations efforts. This role oversees messaging, media relations, digital platforms, marketing campaigns, and stakeholder engagement to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities. The Director of Communications and Marketing strengthens organizational visibility, trust, and community connection while supporting departments in effectively communicating programs, services, and initiatives across Kane County.

This position supports the mission, vision and goals of the Regional Superintendent of Schools and acts as an effective and professional representative of the ROE.

Cultivate a vibrant community through envisioning, producing, and evaluating unique and memorable public events, marketing activities, and multi-faceted initiatives.
Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the agency’s educational goals and objectives. This includes identifying key messages, target audiences, and appropriate communication channels.
Manage public relations efforts, including media relations, press releases, and public statements.
Facilitate effective communication within the organization. This includes overseeing internal newsletters, announcements, and ensuring that staff are informed and engaged with the agency's activities and goals.
Manage and execute all aspects of the agency’s online presence, including website content, social media platforms, and digital marketing initiatives; create and publish content, monitor and respond to online engagement, and leverage digital platforms to increase organizational visibility, brand consistency, and stakeholder engagement.
Develop initiatives to engage the community and stakeholders in the agency’s programs and services. This involves planning, coordinating, and hosting events, workshops, and other forms of community engagement.
Prepare and manage crisis communication plans, responding quickly to emergencies or controversies, and maintaining the agency’s reputation during challenging times.
Ensure consistent branding across all communication materials and activities. This includes oversight of the production of marketing materials, such as brochures, flyers, and promotional videos.
Manage the communications budget, ensuring resources are allocated and used efficiently and effectively.
Lead and mentor the communications team, setting goals, and evaluating performance to ensure a high-functioning department.
Collaborate with various stakeholders, including educational institutions, government agencies, and community organizations, to promote and support the agency’s initiatives.
Analyze and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies, using data to inform decision-making and strategy adjustments.
Ensure all communication activities comply with legal and ethical standards, particularly in relation to educational policies and privacy laws.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and other departments within the ROE in the execution of office functions and programming.
Participate in relevant professional learning opportunities sufficient to ensure professional growth in meeting the needs of the position.
Exhibit an excellent attendance record.
Maintain a professional and welcoming environment conducive to supporting those the ROE serves and staff collaboration.
Any and all responsibilities assigned by the Assistant Regional Superintendent or Regional Superintendent.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree Required; Master’s degree preferred in related field of Education, Marketing, and/or Communications.

Experience

Minimum of 3 years in the field required.

Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with the individuals, districts, and stakeholders served by the ROE.
Strong working knowledge of computer systems and digital tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email, and database platforms; demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Google Workspace is required to effectively support organizational operations.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with ROE districts, staff, and vendors, while also demonstrating the initiative and judgment to work independently as required.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle and current automobile insurance.

Terms of Employment

Full-time, twelve (12) month year.
Work hours, scheduling and assignments are at the discretion of the Assistant Regional Superintendent, Regional Superintendent or designee and per ROE policy.
The work location for this position is the Kane County ROE.

Supervision & Evaluation

This position reports to the Assistant Regional Superintendent and Regional Superintendent.

Performance will be evaluated per ROE policy.

Salary Range - $90,000 - $110,000
