We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our culinary team at King Elementary School as the Assistant Cook - Fresh Fruits and Vegetables. This position is 5 hours a day on student days during the school year. This role is essential in supporting the preparation and serving of nutritious meals to our students, ensuring a positive dining experience while adhering to health and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and a commitment to fostering a healthy environment for children.

Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals according to established recipes and nutritional guidelines.
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dining areas, including washing dishes and sanitizing surfaces.
- Support the cook in menu planning and inventory management, ensuring all ingredients are available and properly stored.
- Serve meals to students and staff, ensuring portions are appropriate and presentation is appealing.
- Monitor food temperatures and maintain food safety standards throughout the cooking and serving process.
- Assist in the training of new kitchen staff and volunteers as needed.
- Participate in regular kitchen meetings and contribute ideas for menu improvements and student engagement.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the head cook or kitchen manager.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Physical ability to lift and carry heavy items, stand for long periods, and perform manual tasks.
- Flexibility to work varying hours, including weekdays during school hours.
