Job Summary:
The Special Education Intervention Coordinator is an integral member of the school’s evaluation, mental health, and behavior support team. This role is vital to supporting students with behavioral, social, and emotional needs within a school setting. The Coordinator will work closely with building staff and administration to develop, implement, and monitor effective behavioral and mental health support systems, including individualized behavior support plans, progress monitoring, and professional development for staff.

Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Social Work with Full School Social Work approval by the State of Michigan and a Professional School Social Worker Certificate by MDE.
Special Education Experience: Prior experience working with students with disabilities. Experience with various disabilities, such as learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, or autism spectrum disorders, is valuable.
Experience in training and mentoring staff who support students with disabilities and mental health, and behavioral challenges.
Knowledge of Special Education Laws and Procedures: Familiarity with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other relevant federal and state laws governing special education is essential. Understand the IEP process, including assessment, goal-setting, accommodations, and monitoring student progress.
Differentiated Instruction: Possess a strong understanding of behavior support strategies, including the ability to support positive change in behaviors to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.
Communication and Collaboration Skills: Excellent communication skills are necessary to collaborate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to work as part of a team.
Patience and Adaptability: Display patience, flexibility
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the student’s IEP team, which may include parents, administrators, general education teachers, and related service providers, to create comprehensive and individualized behavior support plans that align with students’ strengths, needs, and learning goals.
Lead professional development for staff on conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and implementing Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP) with fidelity, including data collection, intervention strategies, and progress monitoring.
Provide coaching, modeling, and training to staff on behavior intervention strategies and classroom management.
Collaborate with General Education Teachers: Coordinate with general education staff to ensure inclusive practices and effective supports in the general education setting.
Guide staff in fostering a supportive school environment that promotes student engagement, social-emotional learning, and self-regulation.
Attend Professional Development and Meetings: Stay current with best practices in special education, attend professional development sessions, and participate in team meetings, IEP meetings, behavior plan meetings, and other school-related activities as required.
Other Job Responsibilities:
Apply current research and theory to the design of behavioral interventions and mental health supports.
Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with administrators, teachers, families, and community agencies.
Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to operate a personal computer and the necessary software.
