Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and organized individual to provide administrative support for the Special Education department at Discovery Middle School. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in facilitating communication between staff, students, and families, ensuring that all special education processes run smoothly and efficiently. This position requires a compassionate approach to working with diverse populations while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with educational regulations.

Responsibilities
- Assist in the coordination of special education services, including scheduling meetings, maintaining records, and preparing documentation.
- Act as a liaison between special education staff, teachers, parents, and outside agencies to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
- Manage and organize confidential student files, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and school policies.
- Support the preparation and distribution of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other necessary documentation.
- Maintain an organized calendar for the special education department, scheduling appointments, meetings, and events as needed.
- Assist with the collection and analysis of data related to student performance and program effectiveness.
- Provide clerical support, including answering phones, responding to emails, and managing correspondence.
- Assist in the development and implementation of special education programs and initiatives.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on special education laws and best practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Special Education Coordinator or school administration.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in office administration or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in a school setting, particularly in special education, is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact positively with students, staff, and families.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with student information systems.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices is a plus.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A compassionate and empathetic approach to working with students with diverse needs.

Compensation: $22.30 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
