The Ocosta School District is seeking qualified applicants for the Elementary School Principal position.

We are seeking an administrator who is visionary, high-energy, flexible, and innovative. The principal is responsible for the development and continuous improvement of quality instructional program and to provide an emotionally and physically safe learning environment for the school community. The principal shall report to the superintendent. This position is for 8 hours/day Monday-Friday, 212 days/year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in educational administration or related field.
Valid Washington State elementary principal’s credential or ability to obtain.
Successful teaching experience and administrative experience.
Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
Demonstrated ability to work with people in a leadership capacity.
Evidence of experience and training needed to perform the functions described in the job description.
Demonstrated experience (in a previous administrative assignment) developing a strong culture of improved achievement.
Experience in implementing curriculum, assessment, instruction that improves learning performance.
Prior experience in designing and implementing an elementary school master schedule.
Demonstrated experience in implementing research-based, best practices that have increased student achievement.
Experience at the elementary level preferred.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

7+ years as an elementary teacher with a proven track record of effective teaching and student engagement.
Leadership in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs): Experience leading PLC grade level groups, defining essential standards, creating Common Formative Assessments (CFAs), reviewing data, and implementing interventions based on CFAs.
Relationship Building: Understands the importance of and actively creates professional relationships to foster an inclusive, safe, and collaborative environment.
Communication Skills: Strong understanding of various communication styles, open to listening, and responsive when needed. Actively works towards collaborative solutions and is approachable and personable, ensuring all community members feel valued and heard.
Expertise in Student Interventions: Experienced in addressing students' academic and behavioral challenges, providing effective intervention solutions to assist teachers in creating safe and inclusive classrooms.
Respect for Staff: Respect staff members' knowledge and skills and engage them collaboratively to address and solve problems and challenges as they arise.
Organizational Skills: Demonstrates strong organizational skills, creating schedules and agendas to ensure efficient use of resources.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

Articulate and support the mission, vision, core principles and policies of the Ocosta School District.
Lead by example.
Articulate and model high expectations and the ability to motivate other to achieve high levels of performance.
Work collaboratively with staff, students, parents, and other members of the community to help improve student learning using data, judgment, best practices, and problem-solving skills.
Distribute leadership, utilizing and growing the talents of all staff members; recognizing their professionalism.

Instruction and the Learning Environment

Lead a collaborative process for the development and implementation of a complex master elementary school schedule.
Provide support and resources to school staff to employ effective instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Assists staff in using data to guide, modify and improve classroom teaching and learning.
Foster growth, creativity, and flexibility among others using a variety of techniques.
Have experience, knowledge, and skill working with Washington State’s Educational Reform – Common Core, SBAC, and graduation exam alternatives.
Demonstrate knowledge and use of technology as an essential learning tool in the classroom and overall instructional program.
Provide a variety of opportunities for student involvement in clubs, government, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
Uses data to know learners, monitor and measure progress, establish targets, and determine next steps to improve instructional practice and student learning.
Experience in using data to:
- Assign teaching staff based on student need and teacher expertise.
- Identify, monitor, and intervene with students most at risk of failure.
- Identify groups of students that are underperforming and to establish specific achievement goal increases for each group.
Evidence of the ability to provide constructive and/or directive feedback to classroom teachers and the subsequent monitoring of progress toward the suggested/directed goal that resulted in a change of behavior or practice.
Ensure that every student meets or exceeds standards by: creating understanding and a sense of urgency among teachers, students, and the community and to do what it takes to guarantee success for every student.

Supervision and Evaluation of Personnel

Monitors and assists staff in implementing effective instruction and assessment practices.
Maintain a confidential relationship with employees regarding individual personnel matters.
Provide appropriate, timely, and meaningful verbal and written feedback to certificated and classified staff regarding performance.
Demonstrate effective mentoring, coaching, and conferencing skills.
Develop a plan of assistance with staff when needed.
Support, implement, and evaluate the in-service and professional growth opportunities for staff.
Demonstrate knowledge of and uphold the laws, regulations, policies, and contractual obligations related to the supervision and evaluation of school personnel.

Communication

Communicate frequently and effectively, both orally and in writing, with all members of the school community.
Maintain high visibility with students, staff, and parents.
Facilitate resolution of complex interpersonal issues among others.
Participate as an active listener.
Maintain a positive relationship with students, staff, parents, and community by modeling respect, cooperation and professionalism with others, recognizing personal achievements and professional contributions of others and demonstrating knowledge of and sensitivity toward individuals and groups.
Develop a school communication and family engagement plan to address important school, district, and community issues.
Develop a plan of reporting student progress in an ongoing and meaningful way to parents.

Management and Administration

Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and support for shared decision-making processes.
Work collaboratively with district administrators to secure resources to support the needs of your school and students.
Manage human resources and budgets according to district and program requirements.
Develop and monitor plans for the efficient and safe operation of the school facility and grounds.
Provide an emotionally and physically safe learning environment for all.
Demonstrate knowledge of and uphold all policies, procedures, regulations, laws, contractual obligations, to effectively manage the school facility and instructional program.
Supervise and approve the preparation of timely submission of all school reports and forms for the district office, e.g. payroll, enrollment, work orders, etc.
