DESCRIPTIONS:

Under the direction of the Principal or designee, the candidate will plan and deliver instruction, differentiate learning, assess student progress, and inspire students in Grade 6 math and science. This position promotes a high-quality, personalized educational program aligned with Washington State grade-level expectations.

Preferred experience with culturally responsive pedagogy, particularly in support of American Indian youth.

Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement
Washington State Patrol and Criminal Justice fingerprint/background clearance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of activities in a well-balanced curriculum to provide positive learning experiences to advance the students’ communication, language, literacy, math and science skills, creativity, physical health, social, and emotional development.
Utilize district and state standards in developing curriculum.
Develop instructional goals and objectives aligned with assigned curriculum and learning standards.
Diagnose student needs and design individualized learning plans based on aptitude, interests, and skill level.
Recognize individual students’ needs and provide appropriate strategies and interventions.
Participate in team planning and instructional activities focused on improving practices and student outcomes.
Prepare teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.)
Use and integrate educationally relevant technology.
Maintain a learning environment that is developmentally appropriate and promotes creativity.
Foster and maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
Maintain student discipline in accordance with the classroom and school-wide discipline plans.
Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families and contribute to a positive school climate.
Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies and high-stress situations, using sound judgment.
Communicate effectively with families, staff, and community.
Collaborate effectively with instructional team members to support student learning.
Cooperate with building principal and staff in implementation of comprehensive instructional and activities programs.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ATRIBUTES:

Strong content knowledge and appropriate teaching endorsement in mathematics and science.
Familiarity with Washington State education trends, including effective integration of technology in the classroom.
Experience or training in designing highly engaging lessons that include complex problem-solving, real-world applications, and collaborative group work.
Ability to effectively implement district-adopted curriculum and assessments.
Willingness to attend and actively participate in the annual two- to three-night science and math field trip (NatureBridge) as part of the instructional program.
Strong classroom management skills, with a focus on student safety and contributing to a positive school-wide learning environment.
