QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate, with proper endorsement(s) in assigned area(s). Early Childhood/ESPE Education certification, Criminal justice fingerprint clearance.

REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to be flexible; ability to organize time, materials, etc., ability to project enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; knowledge of current approaches to teaching; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and community
Experience or ability to work with students with autism or on the PDD spectrum
Demonstrated ability to use the principles of learning for program development
Demonstrated ability to relate in a positive way with the students, staff, parents, and the community, i.e., skill in human relations which demonstrate sensitivity to needs and concerns of others
Knowledge of research-based strategies and intervention for program development
Ability to work cooperatively with staff, administration & support personnel in a team approach to solving individual learning problems
Ability to use varied educational/development assessments instruments
Knowledge of and/or experience related to state mandated standards and assessments
Ability to use a variety of informal teacher-made tests to assess pre-academics, academics, fine motor, gross motor, social/behavioral, pre-vocational, self-help, and language skills
Ability to identify through formal and informal testing the strengths and areas of growth in the self-help and prevocational areas of students
Ability to assist the OT/PT in building skills in the fine/gross and functional motor areas
Ability to assist the SLP in teaching receptive, functional and expressive language skills
Ability to provide training in self-help and prevocational skills in cooperation with the multi-disciplinary team as determined by individual assessment
Ability to carry out and modify behavior modification programs in cooperation with the multi-disciplinary team
Ability to provide to parents/families specific techniques or programs to intervene, maintain and/or change identified strengths/areas of growth
Attend initial training and maintain certification in district accepted de-escalation and aversive physical interventions
Willingness to benefit from district supervision, evaluation programs and professional development
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Demonstrated proficiency in writing and oral communication skills
Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally, with assistance
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Evaluate, monitor, provide, design, and supervise the provision of special education to meet the aptitude, interest, level of achievement and instructional needs of students qualified to receive special education
Provide instruction for students with autism and on the PDD spectrum
Develop interpersonal relations with the students, staff, and parents to establish a positive school climate
Develop legally compliant and appropriate IEP’s to meet the evaluated needs of assigned students and maintain compliance timelines
Improve student growth in pre-academic, fine motor, gross motor, self-help, and social/behavioral areas
Continuously evaluate student progress toward instructional goals and objectives of assigned students, and adjust programming relative to that monitoring
Consult with parents and support personnel
Utilize state and district standards in developing IEP’s and lessons for assigned students
Utilize early learning benchmarks in developing curriculum
Confer with students on an individual and group basis regarding their educational, behavioral/social and physical performance
Conduct parent and/or parent-student conferences to interpret students' educational, social/behavioral, and physical performance; explain and interpret program design
Provide a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to the emotional, social and intellectual growth of young children
Assume responsibility to participate as a building team member in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of school program
Utilize building/district and community resources and support personnel
Attend to the health and safety of students in the instructional setting
Accept responsibility for the general supervision of students at school, at school-sponsored activities or events, and for community based education placements
Create and maintain classroom atmosphere and discipline appropriate to the particular teaching situation
Use the results of evaluation and self-appraisal to improve teaching effectiveness
Remain current with educational research and best practices
Attend and participate actively in in-service and staff meetings as requested
Comply with district safety rules and regulations
Lead a multi-disciplinary team in the development of appropriate IEP’s for assigned students
Collaborate and communicate with multi-disciplinary team members for the purpose of educational planning
Evaluate students and interpret the results of evaluations to appropriate stakeholders
Create legally appropriate goals and objects (to include, but not limited to academic, social/behavioral and life skills)
Develop and lead transition activities with Birth-3 program
Plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals
Assist, as necessary, with all self-skills, such as toileting, feeding and washing
Use and integrate educationally relevant technology
Protect the interest of the district resources
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
