This posting is for the Director of Theatre (Drama) position at W.F.West High school for the 2026-27 school year. This position is open until filled.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Leadership & Instruction

Develop and lead a rigorous, inclusive theatre program aligned with district and state arts standards.
Instruct students in acting, directing, stagecraft, technical theatre, and performance skills.
Foster creativity, collaboration, confidence, and professionalism among student participants.
Support and advance the Chehalis School District Initiative 75 by 35 by promoting student engagement, inclusive participation, and expanded access to high-quality arts experiences that contribute to student success and postsecondary readiness.

Production Direction & Management

Direct and produce all major theatrical productions (plays, musicals, showcases).
Oversee all phases of production, including auditions, rehearsals, blocking, staging, and performances.
Coordinate technical elements such as lighting, sound, set design, costumes, and props.
Ensure productions meet artistic, safety, and budgetary standards.

Coordination & Collaboration

Collaborate with music, art, and technical staff for integrated productions.
Work with administration and ASB to schedule rehearsals, performances, facility use, and all financial related matters.
Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and community partners.

Student Development & Supervision

Mentor students in leadership roles (e.g., stage managers, crew leads).
Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, and related activities.
Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment.

Administrative & Operational Duties

Manage production budgets, purchasing, inventory and ASB requirements.
Coordinate publicity, ticketing, and front-of-house operations.
Ensure compliance with copyright, licensing, and district policies.
Maintain documentation, calendars, and communication related to productions.

Safety & Compliance

Enforce safety procedures for rehearsals, sets, costumes, and technical equipment.
Ensure proper supervision and adherence to district and state guidelines.
First Aid / CPR certification - current.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Drama, Performing Arts, or related field (preferred).
Experience directing and producing high school or community theatre productions.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Knowledge of technical theatre and production processes.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet production timelines.

Reports to: Building Principal

Compensation and Benefits:
The District complies with State Law regarding SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) eligibility and benefits. Coaching positions are not anticipated to meet the SEBB eligibility requirements.
