This posting is for a Speech and Debate Club Advisor position at W.F. West High School. The season is anticipated to start September 2025 and end June 11, 2026.

In-District applicants will receive first consideration. Rate of pay based on experience and the Extra-Curricular Activities Salary Schedule. The stipend range is $2,892. to $3,425.

Position Title: Speech and Debate Club Advisor

Summary of Position: Under the direction of the High School Administration. The Speech and Debate Club Advisor is responsible for organizing, supervising, and mentoring students participating in speech, debate, and related competitive speaking activities. The advisor fosters a supportive environment where students develop communication, critical thinking, research, and public speaking skills while ensuring alignment with school policies and competition guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Recruit, encourage, and retain student participation in Speech and Debate Club.
Organize and supervise regular club meetings, practices, and workshops.
Instruct students in debate formats, speech categories, research methods, argumentation, and delivery techniques.
Provide constructive feedback to help students improve performance and confidence.
Coordinate registration, travel, and supervision for tournaments and competitions.
Follow ASB rules and requirements.
Abide by competition association rules and guidelines.
Collaborate with other staff, administrators, and parents to support student participation and achievement.
Manage club-related budget, fundraising, and resource needs as assigned.
Foster teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship among participants.
Serve as the primary liaison between the school and state/national speech and debate associations.
Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications:

Background in speech, debate, or related fields preferred.
Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Ability to motivate and mentor students with varying skill levels.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for tournaments.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing:

Current First Aid/CPR Certification Card
Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (cost paid by applicant)
Type II driver's endorsement (driver's abstract and Type II employee medical statement)
Additional trainings as required by the Chehalis School District

The District complies with State Law regarding SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) eligibility and benefits. Coaching/Advisor positions are not anticipated to meet the SEBB eligibility requirements.
