Purpose and Scope of Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendents, building administrators and content supervisors, department coordinators will provide collaborative, innovative and responsive support and leadership in Penn Manor School District’s curriculum, instruction and assessment practices. The Department Coordinator will serve to support strategic priorities for programmatic implementation, review of students’ data results, curriculum development, content-specific programs, and professional development for staff. In addition, the position will set department goals that support District academic achievement and operational objectives. Department Coordinators will support curriculum alignment and maintain a fiscally-sound budget within the department.

Qualifications

A Master’s Degree and five years of successful teaching is required. Department Coordinators must possess Pennsylvania Permanent Certification. In addition, the candidate must have a strong content knowledge, an understanding of pedagogy and progression of content-related skills, an ability to communicate well with colleagues, an ability to relate state assessment standards and instructional practices for teaching colleagues.

Essential Function and Responsibilities

Collaborate with supervisors to ensure that curriculum alignment and skills progression meets state level standards and offers consistent curriculum and instructional design.
Attend department meetings with the building administrator to ensure that building and district-level initiatives are supported.
Conduct monthly meetings, record minutes of the department meetings and post them for all participants to reference after each meeting.
Support teachers through monthly meetings to discuss curriculum, instruction, assessment and data for students’ academic and instructional needs.
Create an end-of-year report for the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents and school administrators that will share the student accomplishments throughout the year, curriculum revision, and initiatives that are under development.
Work closely with administrators to provide in-service professional development and problem-solve to address staff concerns related to curriculum, assessment, and/or instruction of the specific content area.
Communicate information regarding the implementation and objectives of educational initiatives.
Coordinate the collection of budget information from department members for transmission to the building administrator.
Participate in curriculum writing efforts under the direction of the Assistant Superintendents, supervisors and school administrators.
Participate in data analysis and devise academic performance solutions. Support teachers’ understanding of student data so that instruction can be revised to impact students’ needs.
Assist in the design of instructional activities and staff development that can be applied to the specific content areas.
Attend bi-monthly coordinator meetings to keep all staff up-to-date on current issues in curriculum, instruction, assessment, data analysis and student needs.
Serve on district-level content-related committees.

Other Duties

Attend Intermediate Unit #13 literacy related meetings and other meetings as requested by the Assistant Superintendents or building principal.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents or building administrator.

Proficient in utilizing appropriate keyboarding skills, technological communication tools including, but not limited to word processing, web (Moodle) design, internet access and utilization, on-line budgeting, and full and effective use of the district’s e-mail software.
An aptitude to utilize and analyze student assessment data and programs related to curriculum, instruction, assessment and remediation.
Ability to problem-solve with colleagues in a manner that helps to support students’ academic achievement.
A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and access to independent transportation.

Physical and Personal Limitations and Requirements

Lifting and carrying materials or equipment – 15 to 30 pounds.
Mobility is needed for frequent sitting (50%), walking and standing (50%).
Mental ability to plan, analyze, integrate and problem solve complex context-related data.
Verbal ability to speak clearly and communicate effectively.
Ability to communicate clearly in writing.
Visual acuity to read correspondence, reports and computer screen data for extended periods of time.
Auditory acuity for telephone and oral communication.
Repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding and communication.
Manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment.
Travel within the district between buildings will be required.
