SUMMARY

We are looking for a dynamic hands-on individual for the day-to-day fiscal activities of our fast-paced and innovative Business Office. This position is responsible for various aspects of the school district’s accounting and internal controls. As a result, you will develop a broad understanding of the functions related to business office operations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform general accounting duties that may include computer systems and processes for purchase orders, accounts payable, purchasing cards, parent payments, journal entries, bank reconciliations, cash transfers, invoicing, cash management, grants, payroll, fixed assets, etc.
Check and review computer records, authorized approvals, and documentation to assure proper recording of financial transactions and the integrity of the district system accounting and payroll records
Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to expenditures of General Fund, Community Services Fund, School/Student Activity Fund, Food Services Fund, and other District Funds.
Uphold processes, Board Policies, auditor expectations, and State regulations appropriate to specific duties.
Be/become proficient with various software applications such as New World Systems LOGOS.net, Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software, Microsoft Word document processing software, Gmail, Google Docs, Eleyos payment, various State of Michigan portals, and as others develop. You will also work with various vendor websites for purchasing cards and purchasing supplies.
Work directly with appropriate contacts and resources within the department, within the district, with outside vendors, and with outside resources.
Be able to handle confidential information both professionally and personally.
Embrace existing and new technologies (i.e., accounting software, payroll software, email, spreadsheet, presentation software, word processing, and web applications related to all business operations) to become both effective and efficient with the specific duties of your position.
Backup and cross-train for other positions in the Business Office.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Extensive experience using Microsoft Excel software, spreadsheets, data import and export, vendor software applications, and other technology to support efficient and effective operation and to create, balance, analyze, and verify data and information.
Minimum Associate's Degree in accounting or related field, or actively enrolled in a program to attain a Bachelor’s Degree.
You will receive training through the Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO) that will lead to an appropriate professional certification.

TERMS

This is a 12-month/full time position. Business Office hours are M-F 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. A part-time option is available, which is 32 hours per week.

Applicant testing, reference check, and credit history check will be conducted.

A criminal history check conducted by the Michigan State Police (MSP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) must be completed prior to beginning work with the district. The cost for fingerprinting and processing is the responsibility of the employee.
