Winlock Middle High School Life Skills Teacher

This position provides special education support/services to students and staff at Winlock Middle High School. This position will provide services directly to students (6th- 12th+ Grade) placed in a self-contained or semi-self-contained life skills setting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops, implements and adjusts an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), coordinating with staff, parents, itinerants, and school psychologist and special program coordinator.
Coordinates with the school psychologist to develop Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)
Develops, implements, and adjusts an inclusive and individualized Behavioral intervention Plan (BIP), coordinating with staff and parents, as appropriate, for the purpose of teaching positive behavior while creating a safe space for optimal learning
Conducts evaluation and re-evaluation assessments, interprets results, and participates with the multi-disciplinary teams in the identification of special education students
Designs, implements, and adjusts specially designed instruction and programs for students in the identified area(s) of need, as related to IEP
Guides and assists with health, feeding, toileting, and hygiene needs of students as directed by the school nurse
Applies an understanding of trauma-informed practice
Successfully integrates students into appropriate classrooms for peer interaction, socialization, and/or academics.
Maintains records and data on student progress toward meeting the goal(s) area(s) identified in the IEP
Understands the Common Core and adapts access to general education curriculum as appropriate
Motivates, redirects student behavior, and interacts with students in a productive manner
Delivers content-driven individualized lessons with depth, complexity, and rigor
When appropriate, provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds
Utilizes state and district assessments and standards in the planning and delivery of instruction
Promotes collaboration between school administration, staff, and parents for the purpose of maintaining effective, consistent, and regular communication between all stakeholders
Administers, scores, interprets, and writes an analysis of standardized and curriculum-based assessments (CBA) and shares the analysis at IEP meetings
Develops, administers and enters in the data for the WA-AIM assessment
Confers, counsels, trains and assists paraeducators and school staff regarding specialized procedures and requirements
Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) around aspects of special education services
Stays current on policies and laws related to special education
Develops and maintains collaborative and transparent relationships with other district staff, families, and community partners.
Completes all documentation as required by law, including but not limited to IEPs, assessment documents, and progress reporting
Complete formal progress reports at least quarterly
Attends staff and other professional meetings as appropriate or directed
Uses and integrates technology for communication and instruction
504 Coordinator for 6th-12th grade students
Case Manager of early childhood IEP’s, Evals, and SDI
Act as district LEA representative when direct supervisor is unable to attend
Work with necessary parties to develop High School and Beyond Plan and Transition Plan
Connnect with outside agencies as needed for post high school activities
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential:

Possession of a valid Washington State Teaching certificate
Possession of an endorsement in Special Education K-12
Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance.
Ability to interpret data, design, and deliver effective interventions.
Willingness to implement and support district/building-directed programs.
Willingness to be involved with school activities aimed at ensuring student success.
Ability to establish relationships with students, parents, and the community.

Preferred:

Successful special education teaching experience
Ability to speak Spanish
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
Ability to drive a school van as needed
