Transportation Coordinator/Driver 3.0 hours as Coordinator per day plus 4 or more Driver hours per day (depends on route) *Hours per day will not exceed 8.0; 186 days per year(176 days plus 10 paid holidays), plus additional training and orientation days (approximately 5 days)

Salary: $25.33 to $32.07 per hour, depending on experience

PRIMARY DUTY: Coordinate driver route and trip scheduling, substitute driver scheduling, and arrange for bus maintenance and repair. Transport students to and from school on a daily basis and extracurricular trips as needed. Maintain records required for student transportation, including reporting accurately and on time.

Transportation Coordinator/School Bus Driver

JOB DESCRIPTION

General Responsibilities: Coordinate bus driver route and trip scheduling, substitute driver scheduling, and bus maintenance and repair. Establish daily routes and update as needed. Transport students to and from school on an assigned daily route. Transport students on extracurricular and field trips (including on evenings and weekends) as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

As a Bus Driver: Safely operate a school bus/van in all types of weather and road conditions transporting students in accordance with all applicable laws; maintain control of student passengers as related to safety and behavior; report unsafe actions or conditions to the principal or superintendent; immediately report all safety hazards and mechanical problems to the proper authorities; operate and maintain equipment as required to ensure its life and proper use, and protect district equipment and supplies against pilferage, loss, theft, or abuse; comply with all District safety rules and regulations; maintain the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of district vehicles and refuel as needed; inspect vehicles daily prior to operation in accordance with safety regulations and district expectations

As Coordinator: Serve as the district liaison with parents, community, and staff for pupil transportation issues; establish and modify daily bus routes as appropriate; coordinate driver and bus scheduling for athletic and field trips in accordance with language in the CBA; arrange for substitutes as needed; assign busses to routes, following a plan to control and distribute mileage accumulation throughout the fleet; manage, schedule, and keep record of regular maintenance and repair of buses; complete transportation records and reports accurately and submit on time; maintain file of pre and post-trip inspection sheets; respond to reports of mechanical problems on vehicles; follow and ensure adherence to established school, local, state, and federal rules and regulations; coordinate vehicle inspections by Washington State Patrol; ability to maintain security cameras and provide video to administrators as requested; attend monthly Washington Association for Pupil Transportation regional meetings; review monthly payroll timesheets for driver accuracy and submit to payroll on-time; maintain security and organization of bus garage and office; read and respond to bulletins, memos and emails in a timely manner and communicate appropriate information to drivers; maintain a professional attitude and appearance in the workplace; maintain confidentiality of student and staff records; Main phone contact for drivers during driving hours, including evenings and weekends; Communicate weather and road conditions with Superintendent outside of regular work hours as needed; perform other related work as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent; minimum of 5 years of school bus driving experience preferred but not required; Must have a valid Washington State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B and a school bus driver passenger endorsement; Must have a current first aid/ CPR card; Must be able to pass Department of Transportation physical; must have proof of good driving record; Must pass a Washington State Patrol Criminal History Form; must pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing per DOT guidelines; must coordinate and complete annual required in-service bus driver training; must be very customer service oriented.

DESIRED SKILL SET:

-Ability to accept responsibility and work independently with limited supervision

-Must be proficient in the use of email, Microsoft Excel and other district technology used to maintain and submit required reports

-Must be able to build and maintain working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the general public

-Ability to oversee and direct a team of bus drivers

-Must be able to collaborate with staff members in other departments in a positive manner

-Ability to exercise considerable independent judgement and initiative on planning, coordinating, and overseeing physical and human resources needed to effectively maintain and functional and efficient transportation department

-Must maintain consistent attendance and punctuality

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to; stand, walk, use hands and fingers to grasp or feel, reach with hands and arms, push and pull, talk, hear, and smell. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must be able to regularly lift 25 pounds and occasionally lift 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Bus drivers spend most of their workday driving, so prolonged sitting is required. Bus drivers drive in all weather conditions. Possible hazards include collision with other vehicles or nervous strain from maneuvering a large vehicle through heavy traffic while dealing with passengers. While performing this job the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes, odors, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemical. The employee is often exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate and occasionally loud. Bus drivers work without direct supervision and are solely responsible for the safety of their passengers and bus. Bus drivers will be subject to high stress situations. There may be some work in the evenings and on weekends driving students to school-related activities.
