MTSS - Continuing

Job Summary:

The MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success of all students in an elementary school setting. The specialist leads the implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of the school’s MTSS framework, ensuring a data-driven, student-centered approach to intervention and support. The MTSS specialist is the primary behavior support within the building.

MTSS Framework Implementation and Coordination

Lead and support the implementation of a comprehensive MTSS framework across academic, behavioral, and social-emotional domains.
Assist in facilitating school-wide collaboration among general education teachers, special education staff, counselors, interventionists, and administrators.
Help develop and refine tiered intervention protocols and systems aligned with district and state guidelines.

Data Collection, Analysis, and Monitoring

Help coordinate universal screening and progress monitoring assessments.
Analyze school-wide and individual student data to identify needs, track progress, and inform decision-making.
Maintain accurate records of interventions and student outcomes using MTSS data systems.

Intervention Planning and Support

Assist teachers and support staff in designing and implementing evidence-based interventions at Tier I, II, and III levels.
Collaborate with educators to develop behavior intervention plans and academic support strategies.
Support students in de-escalation and regulation, safe behavior, and success plans. Must be Right Response Trained (This could include student physical aggression)
Monitor fidelity of intervention implementation and provide assistance, coaching, and professional development as needed.

Team Facilitation and Communication

Lead MTSS team meetings (alongside counselor) and support problem-solving teams.
Serve as a liaison between general education, special education, and support services.
Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and intervention plans.

Professional Development

Provide training to school staff on MTSS practices, data use, instructional strategies, and intervention design.
Stay current with research and best practices in MTSS, intervention, and data-driven instruction.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, special education, school psychology, or related field.
Special education and elementary education endorsement
Valid teaching or pupil services license/certification.
Minimum 3 years of experience in the K-2 educational setting.
Strong understanding of MTSS, RTI, PBIS, and other student support frameworks.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in education, special education, school counseling, school psychology, or a related area.
Experience working in a collaborative, team-based educational setting.
Demonstrated skill in data collection and analysis, and use of data systems.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT and Salary:

As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Deer Park Education Association (DPEA) and the Policies and Procedures of Deer Park School District. The 2024-2025 base salary range for certificated staff in the Deer Park School District is between $54,273 to $106,990 per school year. Placement is defined within the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is generally based upon a combination of Education and Experience. Other forms of compensation may be available to the hired applicant in addition to their established salary range or wage scale as defined within the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
