Assistant Cook Job Description
Days: 1.0 hour per day Monday- Friday
Location: Deer Park High School
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Assistant Cook will work under the direction of the Head Cook and Food Services Manager to prepare and serve nutritious, high-quality meals for students and staff within the school district. This position involves supporting meal preparation, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, ensuring proper food handling practices, and assisting in the overall operation of the school cafeteria.
DUTIES RESPONSIBILITY (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
- Maintain kitchen appliances and cooking equipment, ensuring they are clean and in good working condition
- Handle food according to proper sanitation regulations and follow safety standards.
- Assist with food preparation for special events, school functions, or other district-related activities as needed.
- Prepare OSPI and HACCP records as necessary.
- Ability to communicate with the principal and school staff so the necessary support requirements for educational programs may be provided.
- Ability to learn and demonstrate proper cooking methods and techniques.
- Positive, motivating, and caring attitude for students and be able to supervise and work well.
- Willing to maintain and update food service abilities by attending workshops, conferences, and in-service programs.
- Use and knowledge of personal protective equipment, i.e. goggles, gloves, cut-resistant gloves, and/or any other provided safety equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Graduate, or equivalent.
- possess the ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.
- Must possess, or be willing to obtain, a State Food Handler's Permit.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Proven experience as a cook, preferably in a school or institutional setting Preferred.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Deer Park Public School Employees Association (PSE) and Policies and Procedures of Deer Park School District. 2024-2025 Salary Range: $17.28 - $22.17 per hour depending on experience
The contract Year 2024-2025: 1.0 hours per day Monday – Friday
