Position: Seasonal Temporary Grounds Assistant


Hours: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM 

Days: Monday - Friday 

Location: As assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor


Overview/Purpose:

Reliable and dedicated Seasonal Grounds Keeper to assist with the upkeep and maintenance of our school grounds during the seasonal months. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that our campuses are safe, clean, and visually appealing for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will be hardworking, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in outdoor environments.


Essential Functions:

  1. Operate machinery and equipment to mow, trim, prune, and otherwise maintain grounds throughout the school district.
  2. Assist maintenance staff with various outdoor projects related to grounds including landscaping and irrigation.
  3. Maintain athletic fields, including line marking and field maintenance as directed.
  4. Operate and repair automatic sprinkler systems as directed.
  5. Other duties as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor or Facilities Manager.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to plan, organize, and accomplish work in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Experience operating and maintaining commercial landscape machinery preferred.
  • Valid pesticide applicator license and application experience helpful.
  • Maintain athletic fields, including line marking, and field maintenance as directed.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and guidelines are followed while performing duties.


Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED - Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Must have a valid WA State driver’s license with proof of insurance.
  • Must have current First Aid/CPR certification or be able to acquire it by the start of the season.
  • Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or outdoor maintenance is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience operating and maintaining basic landscaping tools and equipment such as riding and push mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers preferred.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT and Salary:

 Wage: $19.30 per hour

Benefits: Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability.

 Evaluation: This position is evaluated by the Facilities/Maintenance Supervisor.

 As required by RCW 28A.400.303, school district employees are required to complete a Washington State Patrol (WSP) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) background checks. Newly hired employees are responsible for the completion of the background check before hire.
