Band/Music Teacher - High School
Summary: The Teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students, performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District and Board Policies and terms of the teacher contract. The Teacher will also develop and foster relationships with staff, parents, students and the community.

- Encourages the development of the love of music by students.
- Experience in motivating students of all abilities.
- Manages multiple building budgets, keeping accurate records and using District funds to contribute to and accentuate existing curriculum.
- Plans and directs age-appropriate music concerts/productions.
- Instructs classes in instrumental music, choral music, and non-performing classes in “The History of Rock ‘n Roll” and “Ukulele and Songwriting”.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective classroom management conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully employ effective teaching methods.
- Actively participate in regular staff and professional development activities.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional material in accordance with the district provided curriculum.
- Instructs and monitors students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Comprehends and imparts the content of applicable grade level and subject curriculum.
- Communicates with students and parents regularly and clearly in an interactive way outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, emails, conferences, etc.
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports and report cards.
- Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
- Willingness to learn and understand current education strategies and curriculum.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students.
- Speaks, hears, sees and writes clearly with or without assistive device(s).
- Walks and stands for the full scheduled period, with minimal sitting options.
- Adheres to all Board and District policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent.
Other Responsibilities:
- Maintains consistent, predictable and physical attendance to meet the requirements of the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, (JQ or JX Endorsement)
- Must meet ESSA requirements
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically present
- Regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear
- The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust, focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers
