Summary: Literacy coaches work extensively with teachers to help improve specific practice in literacy instruction, enacting the Science of Reading. The Literacy Coach addresses educator needs and helps grow instructional strategies through cognitive coaching cycles and professional learning. The coaching position is partially grant funded, working with the Livingston ESA 35a Coaching Cohort, which meet regularly and work in collaboration with their district leaders.

Support training and efficacy in the Science of Reading.
Support the adoption and implementation of Magnetic Foundation Portfolio and Magenetic Reading.
Help building teams, grade level teams, and individual teachers reflect on instructional practices.
Collaborate with teachers to grow literacy practices in every classroom.
Work with building administrators as part of the Academic Team.
Promote the use of data analysis to inform teaching practices.
Model techniques in classrooms on a daily/weekly basis.
Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
Create an articulated schedule in collaboration with building adminstration.
Provide support to collaborative grade level teams.
Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
Support teachers with instructional strategies/processes during planning times. Informatlly observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for teachers' professional growth and students' success.
Develop staff members' knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development on targeted topics and practices.
Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
Provide job-embedded, informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
Submit a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
Attend LESA and state-level coaching training sessions, including summer sessions.
Other duties as assigned by the building administration and curriculum director.

Responsibilities under the Livingston ESA 35a Coaching Cohort:

o Attending coaches training and networking required by the 35(a)4 grant

o Coaching teachers in their districts around the K-3 Literacy Essentials

o Developing and facilitating professional learning for teachers in their districts around the K-3 Essentials

o Developing and conducting professional learning for principals around the K-3 Instructional Essentials

o Collaborating on the development of the new Livingston County Coaches Network

o Sharing all data needed for tracking and monitoring of areas of needed improvement

o Collaborating in literacy coaching across the county

o Supporting teachers using the MDE Early Literacy coaching Model, not directly supporting students as a classroom teacher or interventionist

Other Responsibilities:

Maintains consistent, predictable and physical attendance to meet the requirements of the position.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: Bachelor Degree in Education with a Valid Teaching Certificate.

Endorsement Required: Elementary

Endorsement Preferred:

Master's Degree in reading and/or extensive training and experience in elementary reading instruction.
BR (Reading Specialist)
BT (Reading)

Required:

5 years of Elementary Classroom Experience

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear.
The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust, focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.
