Job Title: High School Assistant Principal

Reports To: Building Principal/ Designated Administrator

Supervises: Staff and students as directed by the building Principal and policies of the Board of trustees of the Minidoka County Schools

FLSA Status: Exempt, approximately 11-month working period, certified salary schedule, 1 -sick day/month, 4- personal days annually

JOB GOAL:
The assistant principal helps promote the educational development of each student toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, social, and psychological growth and maturation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
A valid Idaho Administrator's Certificate endorsed for Principal.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional:

1. Participates in the supervision, observation, and evaluation of teachers and classified staff as assigned by the principal.

2. Assists teachers and staff with the improvement of the total instructional programs including curriculum development, instructional practices, and assessment as directed by the principal.

3. Assists in the supervision of the special education program including CST, MDT, and IEP meetings.

4. Assists in scheduling student events as directed by the principal.

5. Acts as principal in his/her absence, as directed by the principal.

Student Relations:

1. Assists in the supervision of students before, during and after school, including during lunches, passing periods, and school activities.

2. Makes disciplinary decisions regarding the behavior and actions of the students.

3. Provides guidance to staff and administration on addressing the needs of individual students.

4. Holds conferences with students referred to the office by staff members.

5. Meets with parents, teachers, counselors, resource officer, or the principal as needed concerning student behavior problems.

Staff Relations:

1. Provides support and assistance to staff in issues of student discipline, student programs and student support services.

2. Maintains a positive working relationship with staff.

3. Responds to request of faculty in a helpful and timely manner.

4. Provides feedback with accurate and complete information for staff.

Parent/Community Relations:

1. Develops a good understanding of parents’ and community’s expectations for student(s) success.

2. Works cooperatively with all parties, especially in matters of student discipline.

3. Notifies parents in a timely manner when a problem arises or exists with the student and involve them in the solution of the problem.

4. Assists the principal in contact with parent organizations, civic groups and other organizations in the community.

5. Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with media representatives.

EVALUATION:
The performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of certified personnel.
