Reports to: Superintendent of Schools

Job Function: The principal shall serve as the educational leader and chief administrator of the school.

Education / Certification / Experience

Valid State of Michigan teaching certificate, preferably in Secondary Education
Michigan School Administrators certificate or be enrolled in a program leading to certification as school administrator not later than 6 months after employment leading to completion of the program within three years
Master’s Degree preferably in Education Leadership, School Administration or Curriculum
Three years of successful administrative experience preferred
Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
Demonstrated collaborative leadership experience in instruction and curriculum
Must possess experience which has led to the building of a collaborative school community
Demonstrated ability to address the needs of a variety of stakeholders in a timely and effective manner
Exemplary communication skills
Current professional development in best practices in teaching and learning
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable

Special Knowledge / Skills

Strong background in instructional leadership
Personal commitment to academic excellence with student achievement as a priority goal
Leadership experience working with diverse populations and special needs students
Skilled in leading school improvement and applying data to initiate specific instructional change
In depth knowledge of curriculum, instruction and assessment
Knowledge and experience in closing the achievement gap using research and evidence based instruction
Experience evaluating instructional and support staff that will improve teaching and learning (greater consideration for those trained in the Danielson Group evaluation tool)
Proficient use of student information systems
Evidence of ability to positively affect school culture and environment

Responsibilities

Providing the overall leadership, direction, coordination and evaluation of an intermediate (3rd-6th grades) school program
Providing opportunities for professional growth and development
Implement instructional programs by supervising and evaluating faculty and staff
Establishing a culture of high expectations for academics and behavior
Interacting with students in a constructive manner, encouraging each individual to perform at their highest level
Establish and maintain a positive learning climate through adherence and enforcement of district and school policies, rules, and procedures for staff, students and community.
Maintaining positive relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, business partners, and other related agencies
Working with staff in the development and execution of school improvement plans
Participating in district-wide activities, such as curriculum planning and in-service training
Monitoring, managing and remaining current of school safety and security as the District Safety Coordinator
Working with central office personnel to coordinate processes for the effective functioning of the school and the Manchester Community School District
Manage designated budgets, facility maintenance needs, and required record-keeping functions of the school.
Participate as an active member of relevant building and district committees and teams.
Promote strong parental and staff involvement through ongoing communication and engagement of stakeholders in matters pertaining to using assessment data to inform decision making.
Collaborate and coordinate with school administrators and counselors in preparing for and executing a variety of state and local assessments.
Maintains timely communication and seeks input from building administrators and all members of the coaching staff to maximize student sense of worth and competence.
Serve as primary conference representative.
Coordinates all aspects of scheduling to include opponents, officials, facilities, transportation and other duties as assigned.
Supervise after-school activities and athletic programs, including contests, and assist the building principal in performing pertinent administrative functions.
Other duties as assigned by the building principal and Central Administration.

STARTING DATE: 2025-2026 School Year

WORK DAYS: Approximately 48 weeks; Monday – Friday (follows the school calendar when in session; plus additional days / evenings)

Principal - Intermediate School Grades 3-6; Athletic Director
