MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in Social Work
Michigan approval, or eligible for approval, as a School Social Worker and registered with the Board of Social Work, Michigan Department of Community Health, or national certification through NASW-ACSW
Experience with special populations, behavioral intervention strategies, and positive behavior support systems
Experience providing clinical individual and group counseling services in a school setting or mental health agency
Experience providing mental health services
Experience in providing school social work services
Experience providing services to individuals with autism, mental impairments, mental health needs, and behavioral needs.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with students, parents, teachers, school personnel, and outside providers/agencies through productive communication, partnering, and collaboration.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to utilize technology, use multiple information systems, gather and interpret data to drive decision making, and maintain student information under HIPPA and FERPA guidelines

DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE:

This position will serve students who are eligible for special education services and receive social work services as identified through an Individualized Education Plan. In addition, this position will serve as a resource to Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) teams by providing individualized support and services to students, staff, and families in the areas of behavioral and mental health in order to achieve the student’s full social-emotional and academic potential.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:

Implement data driven prevention and intervention systems to support both students and staff in the education setting
Conduct social-emotional system needs assessments and advocate for student needs based on the results
Provide consultation and coaching to support teachers, parents, and/or administrators in best meeting the educational needs of students identified with social, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges impeding their participation in the learning environment
Collect Data on PBIS systems and PBSP plans to document progress or revise plans for student success.
Participate as a member of the building MTSS support team to assist all students in making social-emotional and academic progress and to provide recommendations to programs for best practices
Participate in SAT meetings, Child Study, Eligibility, Special Education, and other relevant student services team meetings
Participate in the county-wide School Social Work Group and 31n Providers Community of Practice
Serve as liaison and help coordinate efforts between school, home, local districts, and other agencies such as Community Mental Health, Department of Health and Human Services, Juvenile Court, and the Truancy Officer
Complete all work assignments such as service documentation, evaluations, assessments, screenings, recommendations/determinations, treatment planning, and other duties within established timeframes and submits to supervisor as requested
Provide crisis intervention services as appropriate and as requested by administrator
Provide services to parents and families to help them in better meeting their needs and the needs of their child
Obtain any and all informed consent needed to bill and provide services
Provide follow-up on students who have exited services
Accept feedback in a professional manner
Demonstrate ethical handling of confidential student and parent information
Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality
Adheres to established regulations, policies, procedures, rules, and laws
All other duties to be assigned by the Director of Special Education, Superintendent and Board of Education as they see appropriate

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES SUPPORTING STUDENTS ELIGIBLE FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES:

Assist special education students to fully develop their individual potential socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually
Provide data driven behavioral, social, and emotional interventions and services to students with disabilities that support progress in the education setting
Provide special education services mandated by the State of Michigan requiring school social work evaluation
Provide consultation to teachers, administrators, and other professionals in implementing procedures and interventions related to the educational, social, and emotional needs of students
Provide special education services including comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, report and goal writing, interpreting, and presenting results at IEP meetings
Lead, draft, and support the formulation of Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, and positive behavior supports at the building level
Provide consultation and coaching to support the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans in the classroom and educational setting
Manage caseload IEP goals and objectives by collaborating with student, staff, parent, community service providers, and program management
Assist in orienting parents to the AI and EMI programs to ensure their understanding
Assist in completing evaluation planning with parents, perform a comprehensive evaluation of student, and submit a written report in response to a special education referral
Provide services to special education students as assigned by the IEP

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES SUPPORTING GENERAL EDUCATION STUDENTS IDENTIFIED NEEDING MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS

Collaborate with school personnel and community partners to organize and systematically deliver appropriate mental health consultations and treatments
Develop and implement a system to effectively identify and receive referrals for students with social-emotional and/or mental health needs
Complete screening, assessments, evaluations, treatment planning, documentation, and service capture in compliance with Medicaid billing requirements
Provide crisis intervention, assessment, risk assessment, and therapeutic intervention to individual and/or groups of students as deemed medically necessary
Consult and collaborate with classroom teachers and other professionals on the development of class-wide and individual interventions to meet the needs of students with mental health challenges
Support students, families, or groups in coordination with the treatment plan to enhance or restore the capacity for social-emotional and mental wellness across life domains
Utilize evidence-based practices, treatment modalities, and curriculums
Maintain documentation of all referrals, recommendations, and interactions relevant to the treatment of students
Maintain knowledge and understanding of current best practices, research, legislation, and trends regarding mental health services in schools
