Qualifications:

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and advanced coursework in reading or have completed professional development in evidence-based literacy instructional strategies
At least five years of successful experience as a classroom teacher, preferably across multiple grades (K-5), with a valid teaching certificate required
Experience working with at-risk students in a Title I setting
Strong understanding of Michigan’s literacy standards and current best practices in reading instruction
Demonstrated success implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), using formative, screening, and diagnostic assessments to monitor progress and support students in reaching grade-level reading goals by the end of third grade
Ability to analyze data from diagnostic tools to identify student needs and recommend appropriate supports and interventions
Strong knowledge of adult learning and professional collaboration strategies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to build strong relationships with teachers, students, families, and administrators
Has sufficient knowledge of scientifically based reading research, special expertise in quality reading instruction and infusing reading strategies into content area instruction
Proficiency with instructional technology tools that support teaching, learning, and data collection
Familiarity with the K-12 Literacy and Dyslexia Laws (former Read by Grade Three Law) and the ability to support teachers in implementing its requirements
Highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities:

Builds strong, trusting relationships with staff, students, and families
Provides instructional coaching using a range of strategies such as modeling lessons, co-planning and co-teaching, peer observation, and reflective feedback.
Support the implementation of evidence-based reading curricula, including both core and intervention programs
Plan and facilitate ongoing professional development to increase teacher knowledge of best practices aligned with the Literacy Essentials and effective intervention strategies
Guide teachers in administering, analyzing, and responding to instructional assessment and progress monitoring data to identify reading deficiencies and adjust instruction
Collaborate in MTSS meetings, PLCs, and data team meetings to support school-wide literacy goals
Manage literacy assessments to monitor student progress and provide actionable insights across all domains of the literacy standards
Work in partnership with the Curriculum Director and MISD Literacy Coach Coordinator to evaluate and recommend high-quality, Michigan standards-aligned instructional materials when needed
Attends the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices Institute, Coaching Intensives, and Quarterly Meetings
Completes training for the Coaching Modules, the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices modules, and LETRS
