Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate educator to join our team at New Haven High School as a Special Education Teacher for high school students. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports the diverse needs of students with disabilities. This full-time position requires a strong understanding of special education laws, individualized education plans (IEPs), and effective teaching strategies tailored to meet the unique learning styles of each student.

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with students, parents, and other educational professionals.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with a variety of learning disabilities in a high school setting.
- Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that encourages student participation and promotes social-emotional development.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting teaching methods and materials as needed to ensure academic success.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support the inclusion of students with disabilities in mainstream classrooms.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance, attendance, and behavior.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to discuss student progress and address any concerns.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events to enhance teaching practices and contribute to the school community.
- Stay informed about current trends and best practices in special education, including relevant laws and regulations.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid state certification in Special Education for high school level.
- Experience working with high school students with disabilities, preferably in an inclusive setting.
- Strong knowledge of IEP development and implementation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet diverse learning needs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning.

Terms of Employment:

School year as defined in the written agreement between the New Haven Board of Education and the New Haven Education Association.

COMPENSATION: Appropriate placement on the salary schedule as defined in the written agreement between the New Haven Board of Education and the New Haven Education Association which can be found at www.newhaven.misd.net under the transparency.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy of the Board of Education and Administrative Guidelines.
