Job Title: HIGH SCHOOL CHOREOGRAPHER FOR MUSICAL

The Choreographer for the high school musical creates and teaches all dance choreography for the production while fostering a supportive environment that builds student confidence and stage presence. This role leads the dance portion of auditions, attends rehearsals and performances, and collaborates with students, staff, and families to ensure a successful show.

Qualifications:

Ability to teach, delegate, motivate, encourage, and mentor high school students
Experience performing and teaching several styles of dance
Experience working in theatre and an understanding of the technical aspects of theatre
Previous choreography and musical theatre experience
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills

Essential Duties:

Ability to create and teach dance choreography for an entire musical production
Ability to establish an environment in which student performers can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image, particularly in relation to the way they physically move onstage
Enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
Ability to work after school, evenings, and weekends for rehearsals and performances
Availability to lead the dance portion of the audition process (early-February), attend choreography rehearsals (March-April), and attend tech rehearsals and performances (early May)
Willingness to be enthusiastic, flexible, and ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers and administrators
Willingness and ability to maintain regular, reliable and punctual in-person attendance
Ability to complete other duties as assigned

Location: East Grand Rapids High School

Rate: 4% of Step BA 1 for Musical
