Position: Lead Preschool Teacher

Summary: Lead teacher provides developmentally appropriate learning experiences with a classroom of preschool children. Is responsible to successfully support the social emotional, physical and intellectual growth of children, recognizing and responding to their individual needs. Conducting home visits, facilitating parent-teacher conferences and parent engagement activities are required. The teacher will adhere to the State of Michigan licensing requirements, Head Start Performance Standards and/or Great Start Readiness Implementation Manual. The teacher will be responsible for a ½ day dual session classroom Monday-Thursday if placed in a Head Start only classroom or a full day classroom Monday-Thursday if placed in a GSRP or Blended classroom. Fridays are required to attend training/meetings and lesson plan.

Qualifications: Possession of one of the following credentials:

● An Associate’s degree or higher in early childhood education (Head Start only classroom) or a valid Michigan teaching certificate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early Childhood General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement. or A Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or child development with a specialization in preschool teaching. (GSRP or Blended classroom)

● Prior Early Childhood classroom experience preferred.

● The ability to work and communicate effectively with parents and young children.

● Successful pre-employment physical exam including tuberculosis screening and criminal records background check

Reports to: Early Childhood Director

Essential Functions:

● Develops lesson plans for individual, small group, and classroom instructional activities which stimulate growth

● Carries out instruction and assessment in accordance with the program's curriculum.

● Creates an appropriate classroom environment which reinforces acceptable child behavior, attitudes, and social skills.

● Maintains accurate child records, observations and assessments on a regular basis.

● Promotes parent/family involvement in educational and child development activities for their children.

● Works effectively as a member of the Early Childhood Center team to educate children, engage families, enhance school readiness, and provide for a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.

Starting Date: August 2025

Terms: 40 hours per week during the school year (Mon-Fri)

Salary Range: $21.84-$28.13 Commensurate with Orchard View Early Childhood wage and benefit schedule
