**This is an 11-month position**

Qualifications:

Valid driver’s license.
Appropriate State of Ohio teaching certification.
Administrative license preferred.
Demonstrates a sincere desire to aid all students.
Good health, high moral character, and good attendance record.

General Description:

The Assistant Director supervises, evaluates, and coordinates educational services for youth detained in county/ODYS facilities. The Assistant Director thereby ensures that each student is provided appropriate educational opportunities as required by the Ohio State Board of Education, Ohio Department of Youth Services, and the Wood County Educational Service Center. The Assistant Director will also provide support to the Director of JDC/JRC, PACE/PATHE.

Essential Functions:

Coordinate, organize, and direct services of classroom teachers to meet the needs of students.
Assist in planning and developing projects for expanding educational services.
Provide individual consultation for teachers and other administrators.
Conduct, in cooperation with the Director of Instructional Services/Personnel, performance evaluations of classroom teachers.
Participate in professional conferences, meetings, and coursework to better understand and serve the student population and teachers.
Gather and disseminates information on a variety of related topics to appropriate audiences.
Act as liaison between local and state agencies on issues pertaining to education.
Supervise in the ordering and planning of curriculum for JDC/JRC.
Study and interpret legislative, executive, or Board mandated actions that affect JDC/JRC education programs.
Assist in the preparation of budgets pertaining to education programs at JDC/JRC.
Maintain a student management system for JDC/JRC.
Assist in the reintegration of JRC youth to home school.
Coordinate testing and assessment services for detained youth including, but not limited to, Ohio Proficiency Testing.
Complete necessary state and federal data reports.
Serve on committees and advisory boards as directed by the Directors of JDC/JRC.
Perform any and all other duties as directed by the Superintendent of the Educational Service Center.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings;
Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values; and
Conducts other duties related to the Coordinator of Educational Service’s (JDC/JRC) duties as assigned by the county Superintendent of schools.

Additional Working Conditions:

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
Occasional interaction among unruly children.
