POSITION: CHARLOTTE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER TECHNICAL ASSISTANT

REPORTS TO:     PERFORMING ARTS CENTER SUPERVISOR
STATUS:  Part-Time, year-round. Minimum of 20 hrs/week, up to 40 hours depending on the time of year. **Flexible scheduling available in the summer!!
SALARY:  $15 - $17 hourly

GENERAL SUMMARY: Assist the Supervisor of Performing Arts Center with technical, operational, and maintenance activities of the Center. Job entails a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays. In absence of the Supervisor, Technical Assistant will function as Build/Event Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the performing arts and a willingness to learn and grow within the field of technical theater.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Assist with the planning, set-up, running and strike of events.

· School functions including rehearsals

· District band & choir rehearsals, concerts, and festivals

· School musicals, plays, Band Bounce, Cabaret

· Community rentals: Concerts, dance recitals, business meetings

· Professional Series events

2. Coordinate the lighting, audio, electrical and set design & construction for the CHS Drama programs.

3. Assist with the training, scheduling, and supervision of the stage crew.

4. When the CPAC Supervisor is not present, the technical assistant shall serve as the overall coordinator for crew calls, rehearsals and events.

5. Assist with the equipment inventory accounting and maintenance of CPAC equipment and furnishings.

6. Maintain a clean and organized workspace in the theater and storage areas.

STAGE CREW RESPONSIBILITIES:
In consultation with and with oversight from the CPAC Supervisor, the technical assistant will guide and coordinate students, temporary employees, and community volunteers. The technical assistant will maintain appropriate professional difference and distance with students. These responsibilities will be shared with other Performing Arts Center staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Associates Degree required/Bachelor Degree preferred or equivalent experience.

· Two years related experience and/or training in production support for theatrical and musical events; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Knowledge of stage technical systems including computer light boards and DMX, complex sound systems, video systems, and counterweight rigging systems. 1-3 years of experience preferred.

· Knowledge of production elements of theatrical and music events, including lighting design, and audio reinforcement – as well as the ability to execute these elements independently. 1-3 years of experience preferred.

· Background in set design and experience with set construction. 1-3 years of experience preferred.

· Ability to work well with others, including under stressful situations and long hours.

· Ability to work flexible hours, including events and weekends, as needed.

· Must have excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, lighting plots, construction drawings, and similar production documents and drawings. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

· Ability to troubleshoot and solve stage equipment and practical problems, and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, video, or schedule form.

· While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance, and work at heights up to 65 ft. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds and move up to 200 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
