Position Description
Position: Athletic Trainer
Building/Program: Athletics
Reports to: Director of Athletics & Youth Recreation
Weeks of Work: Full Time, Year-Round
Position Start Date: Immediate
Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 Annually
JOB GOAL: The goal of the athletic trainer is to provide appropriate preventative and post-injury treatment to athletes. Work in a safe manner consistent with safety policies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
An individual shall possess, upon application, the following minimal experience or its satisfactory equivalent:
- Graduate of an accredited Athletic Training Program
- Current BOC certification as an Athletic Trainer
- Current State of Michigan Licensure as an Athletic Trainer.
- Current BLS certification
- Three (3) years clinical sports medicine experience (preferred)
- Three (3) years experience in a high school or college (preferred)
- Interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with parents, student athletes, team physicians, coaches, athletic director, families, and other healthcare associates.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills.
- Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands, deal with the concerns of athletes and their families, and handle pressures related to emergency situations.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Complies with governmental standards and regulations.
- Maintains accurate documentation of student-athlete evaluation and treatment.
- Works with the school system to assess the athlete’s level of functioning and progress including range of motion measurements; recommends changes to the treatment plan of care and/or discharge as appropriate.
- Instructs athlete on proper home exercise program and use of rehabilitative equipment.
- Order and maintain High School Athletic supplies and equipment.
- Maintains communication with other health care professionals to facilitate quality patient care; reports abnormal physiological changes.
- Assist athletic director with maintaining sports physicals forms.
- Perform wrestling skin-fold assessments, alpha weigh-ins.
- Participate in the parent/student athlete “Meet the Team” meeting.
- Refers student athlete to other hospital services when appropriate.
- Performs appropriate ATC duties as directed.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service programs as required.
- Maintain Concussion return to play documents and protocol records.
- Work with the Nutrition Liaison to provide sport specific nutrition education to athletes.
- Work with coaches to provide injury prevention workout plans.
- Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, and values. Adheres to Charlotte Public Schools’ policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
