POSITION:                           Substitute School Bus Driver
 
LOCATION:                          Transportation Department
                                                           
ASSIGNMENT/RESPONSIBILITY:             A substitute school bus driver is responsible for safe operation of the school bus according to district policy as well as state and federal regulations.  Additionally, a substitute school bus driver must effectively manage student behavior while the students are on the bus.  The key functions of this position include completing vehicle inspections as required by state and federal regulations, safely transporting students to and from school, sporting events, and field trips, managing student behavior, dispensing diesel and propane fuel, keeping his/her bus clean, successfully completing continuing education classes as required by the State of Michigan, and any related duties as assigned by the supervisor.  This position will not have a regularly assigned route.

QUALIFICATIONS:             Must be a high school graduate. Must have or be willing to obtain a CDL B with school bus and passenger endorsements and no air break restrictions. Training provided for qualified candidates. Must be able to pass the MDOT CDL physical. Must attend beginning school bus driver classes within 60 days of hire date. Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, parents, and students in a courteous and professional manner. Willingness to learn new technology and techniques. Able to establish and follow routines. Ability to be flexible in various situations. Ability to maintain discipline, tact, courtesy and good judgment. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
