Position: School Bus Driver- Stand by Driver: Two Positions
Hours: Guaranteed 6 hours/day **Benefit Eligible**
Location: Charlotte Public Schools
Reports To: Transportation Supervisor
JOB GOAL: A float school bus driver is responsible for safe operation of the school bus according to district policy as well as state and federal regulations. This position is not assigned a regular route; however, is guaranteed a minimum of 6 hours of work per day. Additionally, a school bus driver must effectively manage student behavior while the students are on the bus. The key functions of this position include completing vehicle inspections as required by state and federal regulations, safely transporting students to and from school, sporting events, and field trips, managing student behavior, dispensing gas, diesel, and propane fuel, keeping his/her bus clean, successfully completing continuing education classes as required by the State of Michigan, and any related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a high school graduate.
- Must have or be willing to obtain a CDL B with school bus and passenger endorsements and no air break restrictions. Training provided for qualified candidates.
- Must be able to pass the MDOT CDL physical, and random drug & alcohol screenings.
- Must attend beginning school bus driver classes within 60 days of hire date.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, parents, and students in a courteous and professional manner.
- Willingness to learn new technology and techniques.
- Able to establish and follow routines.
- Ability to be flexible in various situations.
- Ability to maintain discipline, tact, courtesy and good judgment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Assessment / Evaluation - Complete vehicle inspections as required by state and federal regulations.
- Safely transport students to and from school, sporting events, and field trips.
- Manage student behavior.
- Dispense diesel, propane, and gas fuel.
- Keep his/her bus clean.
- Successfully complete continuing education classes as required by the State of Michigan
- Any related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
