The Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA) is a critical part of Michigan’s education system serving the Greater Kalamazoo region and provides specialized services to schools and communities and optimizes resources by centralizing innovative programs and services. We partner with school districts and the broader community to offer essential programs including early childhood education, special education, career learning, and educator development, ensuring that learners of all ages receive the support they need.

We are currently seeking an Aviation Technical Assistant at the KRESA Service Center (Will move to the new Career Center in Fall 2025) in Portage, Michigan. The essential responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

Support KRESA anti-bias, anti-racism principles, prioritizing equitable opportunity, program representation and support for all students
Assist the CTE Aviation instructor in the planning and implementation of educational activities.
Show a proactive approach to learning and take initiative in improving classroom engagement.
Supplement instruction by assisting the CTE Instructor with additional student support (i.e. individual and small group instruction, drill activities, student accommodation, etc.).
Be able to plan, test, and teach various science experiments and aircraft maintenance activities with the guidance of the instructor.
Provide and document instructional accommodations provided to support student success in the program (i.e. additional testing time, modified tests/assignments, reading assessments aloud, etc.).
Assist with student supervision in lab and adherence to safety procedures and protocols.
Meet with Student Engagement Coordinator monthly to report on student progress.
Assess aviation related skills including situational awareness, aerodynamics, navigation and flight planning, teamwork & communication, etc.
Assist with work-based learning experiences
Model 21st Century skills and encourage their use by students
Assist with leadership development and related activities
Attend professional development and other meetings as appropriate and requested.
Maintain confidentiality.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma/GED, recent or relevant work experience in the aviation industry, and demonstrate a willingness to learn, explain, and apply aviation principles and practices to students, including Part 107 Commercial Drone Flight. General mechanical skills are preferred; knowledge of automotive, electrical work, or model building is a plus.

This is an 11-month calendar position in job grade 13 with an annual rate of pay between $32,703.00 and $47,047.00.
