Middle/High School Band Teacher
JOB SUMMARY: Pennfield Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Director of Bands to lead and inspire our instrumental music program for students in grades 6 through 12. This position offers an exciting opportunity to shape the musical development of students and foster a lifelong appreciation for music.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a JX endorsement.
● Demonstrated experience in teaching instrumental music to students, preferably in grades 6-12
● Proficiency in conducting and instrumental performance
● Strong knowledge of music theory, history, and pedagogy
● Excellent classroom management and good communication skills
● Ability to motivate and inspire students
● Experience with marching band preferred
● Strong organizational and leadership skills
● Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and administrators
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Plan and implement engaging and comprehensive instrumental music instruction for students in grades 6-12, including: Beginning band (6th grade), concert band (middle and high school), marching band (high school)
● Develop and maintain a challenging and sequential curriculum aligned with state standards and best practices in music education
● Prepare and conduct high-quality performances for various audiences, including concerts, festivals, and community events
● Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student growth, discipline, and teamwork. Provide individualized instruction and support to students of varying abilities
● Maintain a well-managed and organized classroom environment conducive to learning
● Oversee the maintenance and inventory of school-owned instruments. Make recommendations for repairs and purchases
● Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and parents to support the overall music program and student success
● Stay current with trends and best practices in music education through professional development activities
● Manage the band program’s budget effectively, including fundraising efforts
● Supervise and support extra-curricular music activities, such as: Pep band, honor bands, music clubs (as needed)
● Ability to develop/sustain positive working relationships with students, staff, and the school community
● Understands and implements Board of Education Policy, Administrative Guidelines, and organizational practices for the purpose of consistency and compliance
SALARY: Based on Teacher Contract and Salary Schedule
REPORTS TO: Middle & High School Principals
STARTING DATE: August 2025
