About The Role
Within the Division of Student Support Services, and under the general direction of the administrator, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Augmentative and Alternative Communication Consultant/Speech Language Pathologist acts as a collaborative team member, providing coaching and resources to special education teams that support students who benefit from Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC) and is responsible for providing supportive services for eligible students enrolled in regular, vocational, or special education programs. The role will focus on student evaluation, provision of direct and indirect therapy services, and collaborative consultation with staff, parents, agency personnel and administrators. The Augmentative and Alternative Communication Consultant/Speech Language Pathologist (AAC/SLP) Consultant serves as a member or coordinator of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team to provide and interpret the assessment of speech and language skills in determining appropriate placement in special education programs/services for eligible students and provides consultation and coaching to plan tools and strategies that support communication development. Facilitates teachers and parents in observing, describing, and referring suspected speech and language impairments with students.
About You
Full approval as a Michigan Teacher of the Speech and Language Impaired or Speech and Language Pathologist certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC’s) from ASHA. Must be licensed through Michigan Bureau of Health Care Services. Knowledge of special education laws, rules and regulations.
