Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach

Buchanan Community Schools is welcoming applicants for a Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach. The district seeks qualified applicants to operate in the capacity of High School athletics to help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved
Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season
Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present
Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season
Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students
Maintains competency in rules, rule interpretations, meet procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport
Established performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in this sport and is consistent in establishing criteria for eligibility in competition
Adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow up
Works closely with the athletic coordinator in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests
Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms
Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork
Accounts for all equipment or delegates the responsibility
Develops a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the athletic program
Maintains regular, reliable and punctual attendance
Any other duties or responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the head coach or administration
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout their employment in the District

Supervisory Responsibilities: supervises students.

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent; two years previous work experience preferred
Language Skills: read and interpret documents such as policies, regulations, and articles; write correspondence; speak effectively before student/parents/stakeholders; and listen and respond to inquiries
Mathematical Skills: calculate figures and amounts; and apply math concepts to practical situations
Reasoning Skills: solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables; use logic and reasoning to interpret instructions whether written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Other Skills: technologically literate using Chromebook computers and Google applications; able to effectively take direction, as well as, work independently and as a member of a team; ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor; punctual and rarely absent work habits; ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies, experience working with young children, especially those with special needs/behavioral issues, patience, a nurturing demeanor, and enjoys working with children

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear; required to bend at the back more than the average person. Compensation: According to extracurricular/athletic pay scale, base $2,000/season.
