Competencies for Our High School Principal

Champions Student Achievement – Develops, implements, and evaluates initiatives to ensure the school meets or exceeds District standards and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals. Uses data to drive instructional decisions that challenge high achievers and accelerate learning for those behind.
Provides Instructional Leadership – Identifies, implements, and monitors school-wide instructional strategies that elevate teaching and learning. Works collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent and curriculum team to develop targeted staff development programs that improve instructional effectiveness.
Data-Driven Decision Maker – Develops, implements, and evaluates data-driven procedures to enhance student learning and school performance. Ensures budget and staffing are aligned with District goals, using data to measure progress and inform strategic planning.
Develops and Grows Staff – Supervises and evaluates school staff, modeling high standards of ethics and professionalism. Provides consistent feedback, mentorship, and development opportunities to ensure effective instructional and assessment practices that drive student success.
Leads a Safe and Engaging School Environment – Maintains a safe, orderly, and welcoming school environment by partnering with students, staff, and families. Takes ownership of the internal and external appearance of the school and ensures safety protocols and emergency procedures are in place, communicated, and practiced.
Cultivates an Inclusive and Growth-Oriented School Culture – Establishes a culture of continuous improvement where students and staff are empowered to grow and succeed. Champions diversity in all forms—ethnic, cultural, gender, economic, and beyond—while ensuring fair, equitable, and respectful treatment for all members of the school community.
Manages Student Behavior Effectively – Collaboratively develops and implements a school discipline plan with clear expectations, positive reinforcement, and consistent, progressive consequences. Uses discipline data to ensure interventions are effective and students are supported.
Supports Student Engagement Beyond the Classroom – Provides oversight and administration of all student clubs and activities and athletics, ensuring staff assignments and supervision contribute to a vibrant extracurricular experience.
Builds Strong Partnerships with Families and the Community – Strengthens relationships with parents, guardians, and community members to create meaningful partnerships in student success. Serves as a visible and engaged leader in the school and community.
Manages Resources Effectively – Approves, monitors, and manages all building revenue and expenditures with accountability. Ensures compliance with financial procedures, including routine accounting, recordkeeping, and audit of auxiliary accounts.
Enhances School and District Reputation – Acts as a key representative of the school and District, working with community groups, central office staff, and media to foster positive public relations and engagement.
Continuously Grows as a Leader – Actively participates in personal and professional development, including District leadership opportunities. Expands use of technology to support teaching, learning, and administrative efficiency.
Leads with Flexibility and Teamwork – Adapts to evolving challenges with a solutions-oriented mindset. Performs additional duties as assigned with a collaborative and team-centered approach.

What We’ll Love About You

You have 5+ years of leadership experience. In addition to a Master’s Degree or higher, you have a Michigan Administrative Certificate or equivalent certification. You have had the opportunity to work with diverse departments and leaders to attain quality educational environments for students. You are a data-oriented person that loves to prototype or refine programs, always seeking efficiency and effectiveness. Budgets are no big deal and you have experience developing financial plans and responsibly towards district goals. You connect and build relationships in an authentic and personalized way with all stakeholders to come to the best solution; not necessarily yours. You are creative and strategic in your approach to planning, keeping your team, the budget, and relative data in perspective. You are excited to collaborate with your team, as well as others to create a rich environment and meaningful experience for all students.

Salary: $110,000 - $125,000 based on experience

Length of Contract: 235 days
