JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Spanish Teacher: Middle School

SUPERVISOR: Building Principal

LOCATION: Fair Plain Middle School

JOB SUMMARY: Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: Teaching and guiding students to develop their Spanish skills, capacity, knowledge, and cultural competence to be engaged in their communities and beyond

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate secondary endorsement (FF, 6-12) OR qualifies for a full-year permit and BHAS Teacher-in-Training Pathway
Have at least two (2) years of successful teaching experience.
Familiarity with virtual/online learning.
Ability to incorporate technology into the teaching of Spanish.
Strong academic preparation and leadership ability.
Strong communication skills.
Proven ability to meet the challenges of an urban school district

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Education
Five (5) years of successful teaching experience

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning and teaching curriculum to Exploratory and Spanish 1 classes in a developmentally appropriate manner, with an emphasis on differentiating instruction and using assessments effectively.
Creating an inclusive classroom environment through supportive exchanges with students and clear expectations for community behavior.
Using a broad range of instructional modalities to teach the Spanish language.
Using a broad range of technology tools to bring to life Spanish instruction.
Develop and implement Spanish Culture cumulative events
Impart to students the importance of learning new languages and exploring new and different cultures
Working and communicating effectively with parents and staff members.
Articulating and modeling the school's mission and core values.
Supporting and following school policies
Being a positive and contributing member of the professional community.
plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and tests that are in accordance with the district-provided curriculum.
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
Provide appropriate feedback on work.
Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
Observe and evaluate students' performance and development.
Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments.
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job duty
Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Competitive Teacher Salary

Salary based on education and experience pursuant to the Benton Harbor Area School Board policies and collective bargaining agreement for any position that falls under collective bargaining.

EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated by the Building Principal
