We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Secondary Guidance Counselor Intern to join our team. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for a graduate student or recent graduate to gain practical experience in a secondary school setting. The intern will support students in academic, personal, and career development, working closely with experienced guidance counselors and school staff to enhance the overall student experience.

Qualifications:

· Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master’s program in School Counseling or a related field

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

· Ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.

· Understanding of adolescent development and challenges.

· Organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

Responsibilities & Duties:

Student Support:

○ Assist in providing individual and group counseling sessions to address students' academic, emotional, social, and career-related needs.

○ Help students develop coping strategies, goal-setting, and problem-solving skills.

○ Offer support to students dealing with personal or family issues, academic stress, and peer relationships.

Academic Guidance:

○ Aid in the development and implementation of academic plans tailored to student needs.

○ Monitor student progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and teachers.

○ Assist in coordinating standardized testing and interpreting test results for students and parents.

Career Counseling:

○ Help students explore post-secondary education and career options.

○ Assist in organizing career fairs, college visits, and informational sessions.

Program Development:

○ Contribute to the creation and delivery of guidance curriculum and programs.

○ Participate in workshops and training sessions for students, parents, and faculty.

○ Assist in the development of materials and resources to support the guidance program.

Collaboration and Communication:

○ Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success.

○ Participate in team meetings and case conferences to discuss student progress and strategies.

○ Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress.

With their Supervising Guidance Counselor, develop a Professional Growth Plan, including objective outcomes, and complete the plan throughout their internship/practicum year

Terms of Employment:
Grant funded for 2025-2026 School Year, 30 weeks, 20 hours/week
Contingent upon passing post-offer background checks
